Recent improvements in traditional braces have resulted in smaller, stronger, more efficient and less conspicuous brackets. The smaller size and lower profiles of these new brackets make them more comfortable. Their smaller footprint also makes it easier to clean your teeth around the bracket.
Most traditional metal brackets require an elastic o-shaped rubber band, called a ligature to hold the wire onto the bracket. These “ties” come in all different colors so you can show your team spirit or change your colors with your mood! The ties are changed at every appointment. Of course, we also have clear ties for clear brackets and silver ties for a more sophisticated look. Sometimes orthodontists use metal ties (little wires which are twisted around the bracket) in place of the plastic version when extra strength is needed.
