Why are Braces important?

Crooked teeth are hard to clean and maintain, which may contribute to the formation of cavities and gum disease. Oral misalignment can also result in poor chewing and digestion, as well as abnormal tooth wear or unnecessary stress on the jaw joints. When these common teeth problems are left untreated they may become worse over time. Without a doubt, getting orthodontic treatments and having straighter teeth results in higher self esteem and confidence in everyday life.

When’s a good age to get orthodontic treatment?

Although braces can help both children and adults, it is best done much sooner than later. For children, The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this age, early orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment. Many begin braces in the early teen years while teeth are still easier to correct and before adulthood.

Too old for braces?

You’re never too old for braces. In fact, a large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it’s never too late to improve their greatest asset – their smile. Some may be worried about how they look with braces, which is why we also specialize in a braces alternative called Invisalign which is clear and still professional looking.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Treatment time depends on your specific orthodontic problem. In general, treatment times range from 12-30 months. The “average” time frame a person is in braces is approximately 22 months. Dr. Henry sets a goal for how long he expects treatment will take based on the level of difficulty involved. This time can be affected positively or negatively by patients taking care of their braces and keeping their appointments.

What types of treatment are available?
